What Are the Expected Outcomes?

The expected outcomes of the MCRC project are modest (yet revolutionary) – to tell the stories of how people in the United States were divided into racial categories and to use the arts to connect audiences emotionally to these stories.   MCRC believes engaging with these stories will move audiences to mourn the creation of racial categories and divisions. The mourning process involves changing assumptions about who we are and the language we use to talk about race.  New assumptions and language give people the conceptual tools to work through the tensions and problems that are the legacy of racial categories.
