MCRC artistic projects…
are collaborative. Artists who identify as different races collaborate to tell the story of how race and racial categories were created using poetry, dance, music, theater and visualization. Participants read historical writings about how people were divided into racial categories and make art that focuses on the emotional experience and lasting effects of being divided. The approach encourages risk-taking, vulnerability, constructive conflict, and a growth mindset. The outcome is a work of art that offers a way of understanding race through emotional resonance.
